Independent Mayoral Candidate Running to 'Bring Hope' to Morristown

Edward France looks to tackle property taxes, quality of life and transparency in government.

Many in Morristown know of Team Dougherty, comprised of Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, at-large council President Michelle Dupree Harris, at-large council member Toshiba Foster and interim at-large council member Michael Elms, who was voted last week into the seat Kevin Gsell left behind.

With no Republicans running in the primary elections, Team Dougherty was looking forward to an unchallenged November election.

However, a new face has emerged in the race: Edward France.

France was born and raised in Morristown and has more than 30 years experience as a teacher, coach and business person.

He ran for county freeholder in 2000 and 2009. He came close to winning town council at large as a Republican in 1997.

France also worked as "anger management facilitator" at Hope House in Dover and was involved in a baseball sports business from 1982-1996, during which he was a player, coach, sports announcer and business manager as well as traveled and worked in Mexico, Canada and 27 states.

Currently, he’s a long-time small business owner and Realtor in Morris County.

He graduated William Paterson University with a BA in 1986 and the County College of Morris with an AA in 1984.

He has devoted many hours to helping Morristown and “enjoyed just giving back to a wonderful town and its people, motivated by the love of this community and doing public service.”

France “cares about the quality of life, can work with individuals and groups to make Morristown an example of a fine community … (bring) about  low taxes, minimal crime, clean streets, a smooth running town hall, and an open door to everyone.”

Check back with Patch tomorrow for a look at the issues that he plans to tackle.
