Frelinghuysen Wins 10th Term in Congress

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen will return to Congress for his 10th term.

Frelinghuysen, of the 11th Congressional District, beat Democrat John Arvanites, the former mayor of Roseland. A member of Congress since 1995, Frelinghuysen is a member of a family that has been involved in New Jersey politics since the 18th Century and had previously served on the New Jersey General Assembly from 1984 to 1995.

Frelinghuysen, of Harding Township, handily beat Arvanites in Morris County with 91,421 vote (64 percent) to his opponent's 50,052 (35 percent).

His lead was not quite so solid in Passaic and Essex counties, which Frelinghuysen now represents since redistricting took place in the state.

In a press release issued shortly after his victory was called, Frelinghuysen thanked voters for sending him back to Washington.

“My victory tonight, like all who stood for election today, is tempered by the knowledge that so many New Jerseyans are without electricity, heat and basic necessities," he said in the press release. "Our hearts go out to those who are in need and to so many who were able to vote today and keep their community and America strong, despite incredible obstacles.

“Our focus in Congress continues to be jobs and the economy, getting people back to work, government out of their way, lowering taxes, and creating a climate where small businesses can survive and flourish. That effort needs to be bipartisan," he said.
