Hurricane Sandy: Trash on Tuesday Suspended in Twp.

Garbage in Morristown will still be picked up Monday as regularly scheduled.

You don't want to see your trash learn to fly, do you?

Neither does Morris Township. So, they have suspended garbage collection and recycling for Tuesday.

The decision for rescheduling will be made on Tuesday at noon, according to a news release. However, Business Administrator Timothy Quinn noted, "We anticipate picking up Tuesday's trash on Wednesday but that is dependent on the impact of the storm."

Those with questions or concerns are asked to contact the Department of Public Works at 973-326-7398.

According to the Morristown Office of Emergency Management Facebook page, "Garbage will be picked up tomorrow (Monday) as regularly scheduled. Please make sure all loose items are placed in a container."

As can be expected, both wind and heavy rain may have the potential of carrying objects as heavy as a filled trashcan, so it is important people secure these well. Loose trash can wash into storm drains, clogging them and making flooding that much more possible. This will already occur because of fallen leaves, as well as the leaves that will be ripped from the trees in the high winds.

Recycling guys just came, in the only one on my block with it out! I thanked them profusely. That was awesome! :)

Trash guys just came. I wish I had to go cups for coffee and some doughnuts for them and recycling. Over the Holidays I will for sure.....

Our normal pickup day is Monday, and our recyclables and trash were picked up this morning. My hat is off to our Morris Township DWP - they really get the job done!
