Mayor: Town, JCP&L Preparing for Storm

All municipal garages open through weekend.

In preparation of an early winter storm this weekend, Mayor Tim Dougherty said both Morristown and power utilities are being proactive.

The mayor said Friday afternoon that officials with JCP&L–during a morning press conference–had informed he and other mayors in the region of a possible six-to-12 inches of snow hitting our area, with possible winds of 25-to-40-miles-per-hour during the bulk of storm.

Dougherty said the wind, in particular, is concerning, as a wet snow could weigh heavily on trees–many of which still have their leaves on them.

Municipal garages have already been opened to residents for free parking through the weekend. Residents need to tell parking attendants they are there for the storm, and must be out by 8 a.m. on Monday.

In addition, someone will be available at Town Hall throughout the storm for anyone who needs more information. Residents should call the police department, 973-538-2200.

Additionally, power outages should be reported to JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877.

With the ghost of still fresh in people's minds, the mayor said JCP&L has been "very proactive with this storm."

Up to 100 additional crews are being brought in from Ohio, he said, with everyone preparing for the worst.

"Lessons learned," Dougherty said. "We're keeping our fingers crossed that they're wrong."
