'Monument Man' Highlights Morris County's Memorial Day Ceremony

Eleven Morris County Distinguished Military Service Medals will be presented at Friday event.

One of the original Monument Men of World War II, a group of men and women who worked together to recover cultural treasures stolen by Nazis, will be the keynote speaker at Morris County’s Memorial Day ceremony.

Army veteran Harry Ettlinger, of Rockaway, will highlight the ceremony which will begin at noon on Friday, May 23 on the front lawn of the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown.

Morris County Freeholders will also present the Morris County Distinguished Military Service Medal to 11 Morris County veterans in recognition of their service to the country.

More than 9,000 such medals have been presented to veterans or their families since the program began in Morris County in 2000.

The ceremony is free to the public and open to all.
