Morristown Administrator Gets 10% Raise in New Budget

Two councilwomen vote down proposal, but flat budget with $12K hike in administrator pay passes.

While taxes will remain flat for Morristown taxpayers in 2014 thanks to a flat budget, one line item will look very different.

That’s town administrator Michael Rogers’ salary, which was given a 10-percent increase after the council approved the overall spending plan at its most recent meeting, according to morristowngreen.com.

Before the governing body approved Rogers’ salary increase from $122,000 to $135,000, councilpersons weighed in on the change with two members dissenting, the report said.

Raline Smith-Reid and Alison Deeb were the lone no votes, the report said. Smith-Reid said she didn’t think the boost was fair, considering other municipal employees were receiving, at most, a 2-percent increase in pay, the report said. Mayor Tim Dougherty said Rogers’ salary was well below that of other administrators across the state and in Morris County.

The $35.9 million spending plan won’t raise municipal taxes for town residents, which is the fourth straight year the administration has held the line on the budget.
