Democratic Council Candidates Meet the Public

Three incumbents up for re-election face Dem challengers; no Republicans filed to run.

Election season is in full swing as the League of Women Voters hosted a candidates forum on Monday night at Thomas Jefferson School.

Three at-large council seats are on the ballot in the November election, although the outcome will likely be decided in the June 4 Democratic primary.

Incumbents Michelle Dupree Harris, council president, Toshiba Foster and Michael Elms are being challenged by fellow Dems Michael Pooler, a planning board member, Jessica Williamson, a member of the environmental commission, and Tom Alexander, a former housing inspector.

No Republicans filed to run for office. Independent candidates have until primary day, June 4, to file to make the November ballot.

The Democratic incumbents, who are running with Mayor Tim Dougherty's support, depicted the ticket as pushing for a "vibrant, walkable town while holding the line on taxes," according to MorristownGreen.com, while challengers discussed "disinfranchised voters, traffic and high taxes."

There was not enough time given to candidates to answer and rebutal questions from the audience nor each other and questions were broad for the most part, reported MorristownGreen.
