Morristown Councilwoman to Challenge Assemblymen Bucco, Carroll

Rebecca Feldman will be running for the 25th legislative district with the slogan 'Listen, Lead, Succeed.'

The Morris County Election room was buzzing as results came filing in for Tuesday's primary election day. However, the election day one Morristown Councilwoman is looking forward to is Nov. 5.

Independent candidates have until primary day to file to make the November ballot, and that's what Morristown's Rebecca Feldman did. She traveled to Trenton on Tuesday. With 194 petition signatures, she's now running against four others for the 25th legislative district, which includes Assemblymen Anthony Bucco, of Boonton, and Michael Patrick Carroll, of Morris Plains. The 25th Legislative District represents parts of Morris and Somerset counties.

Bucco and Carroll are running as the Republican incumbents. Challenger Alex Krasnomowitz is also running on the Democratic ticket and Jack Curtis of Brookside also filed on Tuesday to run as an Independent with 210 signatures. His slogan is "Principle before Politics."

There are two Assembly seats up for grabs in this district. Feldman's slogan is "Listen, Lead, Succeed."

“I’m now in my sixth year as an independent on the town council and in my 10-12 years of being involved in government, I’ve learned the importance of the relationship between municipalities and the state,” said Feldman.

She added that she wanted to represent all people in the district regardless of party affiliation and even if they’re not a registered voter.

“That’s the only way to let them have a say in the outcome, instead of letting the 10-12 percent of the registered voters dictate what will happen,” said Feldman. “What is viewed as safe districts leads to polarization that’s left many voters feeling disenfranchised. It’s becoming viewed as a problem nationwide.”

Feldman said that she wants to give constituents a “reason for optimism and let them know that their voices do matter.”
