Morristown Town Council: What's on the Agenda Tonight?

Here are five things that will likely be discussed or voted on at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Town Hall.

Have you ever thought about going to a Town Council meeting? No? Well, you're not alone. While there are a few stalwarts, Patch included, that attend every meeting, many of them are quiet affairs (except, of course, when some of the council members begin to disagree on things).

Morristown's public access channel (channel 24 on Verizon FiOS) airs the council meetings at 8 p.m. on Friday nights. But, as our town is pretty small, and there's no snow predicted tonight, why not make a proper appearance? If there is anything of interest on the agenda (say, the five things below), you can have your say in the public portion. Here's to due dilligence!

  1. You Need to Know About Sustainability: The Fairleigh Dickinson University Institute for Sustainable Enterprise will discuss a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation-funded collaboration with Morristown.
  2. You Need to Know About Affordable Housing Applications: A developer called Headquarters Community Developers will go before the council tonight to discuss "funding awards applications" for affordable housing on Martin Luther King Avenue consisting of six one-bedroom apartments. For it? Against it? Come out and be involved.
  3. You Need to Know About the Mayor's Report: At the last council meeting, the council voted to renew the lease between the town and NAACP, which has been leasing office space at Town Hall for years. . Mayor Timothy Dougherty, according to the agenda, will speak further about non-profits and their use of Town Hall during his "Mayor's Report." The council also will vote the required second time on this, which would then upon approval finalize the ordinance.
  4. You Need to Know About American Traffic Solutions: They are the company the council is expected to vote to approve for installing traffic sensors at certain intersections. . Those cameras you see around? They are just light sensors. What ATS does is install cameras that can detect if you run red lights. Any lead foots out there might be interested in checking this out.
  5. You Need to Know About Public Urination: Well, at least you need to know that discussion on zero tolerance policies for the act, as well as public drinking, during St. Patrick's Day, will continue under "unfinished business."
