New Master Plan Revealed in Morristown

Public hearing to take place on Dec. 5.

Mayor Tim Dougherty said Thursday night's regular meeting of the planning board would feature the first look at proposed revisions to the town zoning master plan.

Beginning back in October of last year and running through April, a series of planning sessions informed the new plan, which will be released in draft will be released to the public on Nov. 15, according to a report on the Morristown Green.

For his part, Dougherty was pleased with the process and with the planners involved.

"It was the best thing I did as Mayor, hiring the Jonathan Rose Companies," the mayor said. "They have made such a difference in the smart growth around Morristown."

The Morristown Green report said details promised at future hearings included:
  • Locations of permitted uses and desired neighborhood character
  • New land uses such as light manufacturing and live/work uses
  • Downtown building heights
  • Neighborhood transitions
  • Neighborhood centers, schools, and community centers
Chairman Joseph Stanley appointed three board members to review the plan in greater detail, and scheduled a public hearing for Dec. 5, 2013. Adoption of the document is anticipated on Jan. 23, 2014, the report said.
