Parking Issues, Historical Designations, Festival Among Topics At Next Town Council Meeting

The next Town Council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Town Hall, 200 South St.

After nearly a month since the last Town Council meeting, a full slate of issues will be heard when councilmembers meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Town Hall.

Among those issues to be heard is a resolution which has raised concerns for residents of South Street Apartments, across the street from Town Hall at 181 South St.

Currently, residents at the apartment building–up until recently called The Ambassador–park in the municipal lot behind Town Hall. They do not require any permits to park there.

A flyer has been distributed around the apartment building, asking tenants to come out to tonight's council meeting. "Our parking is in jeopardy," the flyer reads.

At issue is Resolution R-155-10, which on the agenda reads, "resolution authorizing the parking authority of Morristown to enforce all residential parking regulations in the Town of Morristown."

The flyer reads, "the parking will be two-to-three-hour parking during the day, still requiring a hardship parking permit, but from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. it will be residential parking only. Ambassador tenants are not eligible for residential parking permits, because we do not reside on a street with on-street parking."

The flyer goes on to ask tenants to "let Morristown Town Council know what the issues are. Because this ... is so broad, they may not know the full impact it will have on the tenants in this building. Eventually, there will be no parking available to us."

Also on the agenda is further discussion on the town acquiring a parcel of land at 20 Hillcrest Ave., where an unoccupied house in disrepair currently sits. Also, the council will discuss the annual "Festival on the Green," scheduled to be held on Oct. 3.
