Parsippany's Cesaro Sworn in as Freeholder

Special convention elected Cesaro to fill seat vacated by Gene Feyl, who now heads Highlands Council.

John Cesaro, of Parsippany, the top vote-getter in last week's was sworn in Tuesday as the newest member of the board.

Cesaro was elected by acclaim by a special Republican convention called to fill the open seat on the freeholder board vacated by Gene Feyl, who in May was .

Following his election to the freeholder board, Cesaro announced he had resigned his seat on the Parsippany Township Council. His first freeholder meeting was Wednesday.

Cesaro will fill the remainder of Feyl’s term until the end of the year, and if elected in November, would begin serving a new three-year term in January.

Cesaro was nominated for the position by his running mates, John Krickus, of Washington Township, and David Scapicchio, of Mount Olive.

The three Republicans will face in November Democrats Wasim Kahn, of Parsippany; Toshiba Foster, of Morristown; and Joy Singh, of Morris Plains.

Cesaro thanked his running mates and the party for their support. He also thanked incumbent freeholders John Murphy, Feyl and Freeholder Director William Chegwidden for their service.

Chegwidden was defeated in the primary.

“I want to do what’s best for the taxpayers of Morris County,” Cesaro said. “Past freeholders have created the best run county in the state. But we can not sit on our laurels.”

Cesaro and his running mates called for smaller and smarter government, and pledged not to raise county taxes.

"The taxpayers need to know that I will work hard for their best interests," Cesaro said.

The convention also re-elected the county committee’s leadership, including Chairman John Sette, who has served since 2002.
