Iron Bar owner Jimmy Cavanaugh finally got his wish, for his South Street establishment to extend its liquor license next door for the creation of Iron Bistro.

But it comes with a major stipulation.

According to morristowngreen.com, the council approved the extension, but with an 11:30 p.m. last call for alcohol on Fridays and Saturdays, with an 11 p.m. last call on all other nights.

The Iron Bistro is proposed to fill two vacant storefronts, the report said. Whether the owners go forward with the development remains to be seen.

Morristown Council approved a 2 a.m. last call for the recently redesigned and renovated Office Tavern Grill, and Cavanaugh’s attorney, Robert Williams, said the Iron Bistro deserved the same accommodation, the report said.

The downtown bar scene in Morristown has become a topic of contention recently, as the police reports for late night, alcohol-fueled fights, mischief and public urination continues to grow.

Two of the town’s more popular haunts, the Dark Horse Lounge and Sona Thirteen, recently had their liquor licenses not renewed by the council because of ABC violations. The two establishments will go before the governing body in August to try and have the renewals approved.

"Morristown Council approved a 2 p.m. last call for the recently redesigned and renovated Office Tavern Grill". And I thought the three-martini lunch had become a thing of the past.

Typos are the worst, aren't they? :) Thanks for the note, RPA, and we've made the change.

Let's be clear that The Office was a Planning Board approval for expansion of premises: it was not an ABC Hearing for a license extension. It is a long established credible restaurant that does not cater to nor encourage solely a drinking clientele.

I'm thinking thats a 2am last call for the office?

Part of the approval included a requirement to keep all trash off the piazza walkway. It's quite possible that Mr. Cavanaugh will not act on the approval because of that requirement and the shortening of his planned "last call" time. If that happens, we will all get to see what a good neighbor he is if he listens to the surrounding community and takes care of that trash. Otherwise, he'll prove to be the bad neighbor as he was described.
