Your Guide to Primary Elections in Morristown

Four town council seats are open this year, as well as county seats.

Nearly a dozen candidates across three of Morristown's four wards are running in Town Council primary elections, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7.

In Ward 1, incumbent Rebecca Feldman, as a registered Independent, is not required to run in the primary elections. She will face Democrat Christopher Kehrli in the general election in November.

In Ward 2, Democratic incumbent Raline Smith-Reid is being challenged by fellow Democrat Toshiba Foster, a member of the Planning Board. Republican Naveen Nadipuram is running unopposed.

In Ward 3, Democratic incumbent James E. Smith is being challenged by fellow Democrats Stefan Armington and Michael Pooler, both members of the Planning Board. 

In Ward 4, Alison Deeb, the lone Republican on the Council, is being challenged by Republican Ed France. On the Democratic side, Denis Ciklic is running against Jessica Pierson Williamson.

There also are county-wide elections happening on Tuesday.

State Senator Anthony M. Bucco will be challenged in the Republian primary for his seat representing the 25th legislative district. Also running for the Republican nomination to the state senate seat is William J. Chegwidden (currently director of the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders) of Wharton.

The only Democrat listed as running for his party's nomination to the state Senate seat is Rick Thoeni of Denville.

The senator's son, also Republican and also named Anthony Bucco, will seek to return to his state Assembly seat, as will fellow incumbent Republican Michael Patrick Carroll. That Republican primary will also be a contest. Also running are John G. Sierchio of Boonton Township—meaning there will be three candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the two open seats.

In the Democratic primary for the Assembly seat, George Stafford and Gale Heiss Colucci are running.

The district, though recently reconfigured, is traditionally considered strong Republican territory.

At the county level, Freeholder  is running against William 'Hank' Lyon on the Republican side. Truscha Quatrone is running uncontested for as Freeholder for the Democrats.
