Veteran Team Wins Their First No Idea Sports Basketball Championship

With four seasons of No Idea Sports basketball under their belt, Mixed Breed was due for a championship. But, would the team who provided the 1 blemish on their 8-1 record dash their title dreams?

Mixed Breed earned the right to play in the championship by being the top seed, while The Y's Guys won their spot in the championship game by winning the semi-final played right before the championship. The Y’s Guys were ice cold in the first half of the semi-final, down 35-22 at the half. But, they started the second half on an impressive 20-0 run and couldn’t miss from anywhere. Clearly on a roll, The Y's Guys were hoping they could once again defeat Mixed Breed for the championship.

The championship started off for The Y's Guys the way their semi-final did; they were ice cold. Mixed Breed led the game 25-14 with minutes remaining in the first half. Mixed Breed's half court shot at the buzzer helped the team maintain their 11-point lead.

The second half scoring started quickly. Each team made a quick 3-pointer to make it 28-17 early on. The 3-pointers didn't just happen at the beginning of the second half. Both teams began putting up triple points and with 15 minutes remaining, the score was 41-28. The Y's Guys cut Mixed Breed's lead to 9 with 9 minutes left, trailing 47-38. With 5 minutes to go, Mixed Breed saw their lead slip to only 4, 56-52, thanks to a 3-pointer from The Y's Guys. With less than 120 ticks to go, The Y’s Guys commit a crucial turnover which led to a Mixed Breed dunk. More careful with the ball, Mixed Breed saved a potential turnover and turned it into 2 points with a layup to go up 60-55. Once the final horn sounded, Mixed Breed won their first No Idea Sports Basketball Championship, 62-55, after 5 seasons of playing.

Congratulations to Mixed Breed on their first championship and to The Y's Guys for giving it their all in the semi-final and championship games. Thanks to all of our other teams: Hood Team, Friedman Swish, BrickLayers, Return of da Ruffnecks, and Your Sister's Keeper.
