College-Bound Morristown Students Win $5K Scholarships

Three seniors awarded funds from 200 Club of Morris County.

Three Morristown High School students were each awarded $5,000 scholarships as they head off for college, thanks to a longstanding countywide organization.

The 200 Club of Morris County awarded 22 students from the area who are either the children of first responders or first responders themselves.

Elizabeth Nagidi, Oscar Ponciano, and Ryan Houser all received the scholarship at a ceremony recently for demonstrating extraordinary dedication to their studies, according to a statement from the 200 Club.

“To be eligible, students must demonstrate excellence in academic performance, community service and extracurricular activities. Financial need also is taken into consideration,” the statement said.

In addition, Nagidi and Ponciano also received $500 book grants from Glaxo Smith Kline.

“This is one of our truly pleasurable programs,” said Lou Nisivoccia, president of the 200 Club of Morris County in the statement. “The parents of these children put their lives on the line to protect us. These scholarships are a way to thank them and to assure that we’ll have well-educated, excellent leaders needed to assure a safe and secure society in the future.”
