"Politics on the Public Mind" Lectures

This semester’s series concentrates on polling methods. Each presenter is a leader within the field of polling and will discuss their insights on staying ahead of
the curve. The first session on Oct. 6 features, Mickey Carroll, the director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. Carroll brings more than 40
years of experience as a political writer and columnist for New York and New Jersey newspapers.On Oct. 13, Michael DuHaime, former lead strategist for New
Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s campaign and a Republican strategist and public affairs executive, will speak. DuHaime is the managing director at
Mercury Public Affairs LLC.On Oct. 20, Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, will speak. Murray’s initiative is to go beyond the headlines to cover quality of life issues that affect the daily
lives of New Jersey residents by tracking issues of public policy.On Nov. 3, Paul Donato, the executive vice president and chief research officer for Nielsen, will speak. Donato is responsible for the development of a global
network of Nielsen Measurement Scientists and exploring methods to measure media audiences and consumer behavior in the changing, converging media
environment.On Nov. 10, Dan Cassino, the director of experimental research for FDU’s PublicMind Poll and an assistant professor of political science, will
speak. Cassino’s research focuses on how voters form opinions about candidates and issues and the role of emotion in this process, as well as its impact on
voting and other behavioral outcomes. Cassino recently co-authored a book, “Consuming Politics: Jon Stewart, Branding and the Youth Vote in America,” with
his wife, Yasemin Besen-Cassino.On Nov. 17, David Redlawsk, the director of the Rutgers-Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling and a professor of
political science, will speak. Redlawsk was also the founder and former director of the Hawkeye Poll for the University of Iowa before returning to Rutgers where he received his doctorate in political science.On Dec. 1, Krista
Jenkins, an FDU associate professor of political science and a survey analyst for FDU’s PublicMind Poll, will speak. Jenkins co-authored a book, “A New Engagement? Poltical Participation, Civic Life, and the Changing American Citizen.” The lectures will take place in the Library's Orangérie.
