Frelinghuysen Field Hockey Is State Sectional Champion

Sixth-grader Callie Sundin scores winning goal, beating West Essex, 1-0.

You can tell a proud parent by the number of exclamation points in his or her emails.

None seemed prouder recently than Betsy Sundin, whose daughter, Frelinghuysen Middle School sixth-grader Callie, scored the winning goal for the Field Hockey team in State Sectional Tournament Finals on Thursday, Nov. 3. The team beat West Essex Regional Middle School, 1-0.

"They won!!!!" Betsy Sundin virtually shouted over email.

"All of the players demonstrated excellent skill offensively and very strong defense, too," she wrote. "Callie...scored the winning goal with an awesome assist by Devon Colquhoun. Both players are sixth graders at Frelinghuysen Middle School."

Frelinghuysen Field Hockey, head coached by Bryan Manahan, has not won this title for 10 years, Betsy Sundin noted.

"It was a phenomenal game and very very exciting," she said. "The bus left the field tonight with lots of happy Morristown players and three very proud coaches."

Congratulations on the victory, girls, from Patch!
