Many Still Without Power, Schools to Remain Closed This Week

Minor damage, already repaired, reported at only one Morris School District building.

With much of this area still without power, it was bound to happen.

The Morris School District announced Wednesday that its schools would remain closed the rest of the week.

Mary Donohoe, with the Morris School District, said an update would be available as soon as possible regarding next week, "as soon as we have sufficient information regarding safe streets and power."

As of 3:30 p.m., JCP&L's outage map read that Morristown had 52 percent of its houses without power (4,988); 85 percent in Morris Township; and Morris Plains had 84 percent still in the dark (2,044). While numbers have improved for some (at one point, Morris Plains was near 100 percent out), many remain powerless.

Though power remains an issue for many, including the Morris School District, Donohoe said, "overall, schools did not receive any damage."

There was minor issues as a result of the storm, including roof damage at Thomas Jefferson School from a fallen tree, "but easily and already repaired so that when power/other conditions allow schools to open, the school will be totally fine for classes," Donohoe said.

Morristown is a joke and should be embarrassed. I guess they learned nothing from Irene.

Does anyone know if Spencer Drive has power? I am traveling outside of USA, and worried about my house there. Thanks,
