Sam Panko was told to reach for the stars at Sussex Avenue School as a third grader, and he’s taken his homework assignment to heart.
The Morristown teen who will be a high school senior in the 2014-15 school year has made good on a task from nearly a decade ago, when he won the Sussex Avenue School’s competition to create and design a logo for the school.
As a third-grader, Panko took the school’s motto: “Reach for the Stars,” and created an interpretation with a student grabbing at the sky and retrieving a star. The inspiration stemmed from the World Cup trophy.
Panko came back to his elementary school this week and recreated the logo on a library wall behind the circulation desk for all students to enjoy.
That motto has been more than a sentence for Panko, who has spent his last few years involved in swimming, track, rugby, and karate, along with organizations like S.N.A.P., Pathways, and Heroes & Cool Kids. The teen is also interning at Drive 80 Studios, an animation company in Morristown.
