Red Oaks Students Compete in New Orleans

Six students of school participated in Junior Olympics event.

Six students from , on Cutler Street in Morristown, recently traveled to New Orleans to compete in the the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Six members of The Red Oaks School Lightning Bolts Jump Rope Team based in Morristown, New Jersey, will compete in this summer’s AAU Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans, Louisiana, from Wednesday, July 27 through Monday, Aug. 1. The competitors traveling to New Orleans are Meghan Feldman (Fourth Grader from Morris Township), Devon Gogerty (Second Grader from Mendham), Alexander Grayzel (Second Grader from Morris Township), Jacob Grayzel (Fifth Grader from Morris Township), Dylan Greifinger (Fifth Grader from Summit), and Madeleine Levinsohn (Fifth Grader from Morris Township). Head Coach Susan Waldrop and Assistant Coaches Christine St. Peter Levinsohn and Lynn Castrataro accompanied the team to the games along with several parent chaperones.

This will be the third year that The Red Oaks School Lightning Bolts have participated in the AAU Junior Olympics games. The qualifying event for the games was the Mid-Atlantic Open Invitational held in Lewes, Delaware, on April 2, 2011. The Lightning Bolts will be participating in Boys and Girls Speed (number of single "stepping" jumps in a minute), Power (number of “double unders” in a minute), Freestyle (single rope choreographed sequence of tricks to music for 60-75 seconds in a 40 x 40 foot square), and Pairs Freestyle.
