Rotary Offers $27K Scholarship

Ambassadorial Scholarship deadline is July 1 for 2012-2013 shool year.

The Morris Plains and Morristown Rotary Clubs, along with others in Northern New Jersey Rotary District 7470, are once again sponsoring a prestigious study-abroad program that it has offered since 1947. The Rotary press release follows:

The Rotary Clubs in our area are seeking candidates for the prestigious Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for graduate or undergraduate study abroad in the 2012-2013 academic year.

This program, operated by The Rotary Foundation since 1947, enables highly successful students to receive a $27,000 award toward tuition and fees, room and board and transportation expenses for a year of study in a foreign country.

Candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies before applying and begin the application process at their local Rotary Club where they reside or attend college. More information about Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships is available at the Rotary International website www.rotary.orgunder Educational Programs. The application can be downloaded there as well.

Priority will be given to candidates choosing to study in disciplines that support The Rotary Foundation’s Future Vision Plan. These areas include: peace and conflict prevention/resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy, and economic and community development. Basically, these are the six components of advancing world understanding, goodwill and peace through health, education and the alleviation of poverty.

Applicants for these programs must live, work or attend college within the boundaries of Rotary District 7470 (Essex, Morris, Warren and Sussex Counties), and must meet the qualifications set forth by the Rotary Foundation.  The deadline for application is July 1, 2011.

The Rotary Foundation scholarship program is the world’s largest privately sponsored international scholarship program.  Focused on humanitarian service, personal diplomacy and academic excellence, the program has sponsored over 40,000 Rotary scholars since it began.
