Morris County was smacked around by Mother Nature this week, resulting in snow days and delayed openings for the Morris School District Monday through Thursday.
The district has reached its tipping point, and has officially used all its allotted inclement weather days for the calendar year.
When the Board of Education approved the 2013-14 calendar last spring, it built in five inclement weather days. Those days are now gone, according to Mary Donohoe of the Morris School District.
“Right now, we’re playing it by ear,” Donohoe said. “We’re hoping for no more snow, but if we do lose more days, the board will decide which is the best avenue to take.”
The remaining school calendar has closures on Feb. 17 and 18 for Presidents’ Day; six days in April, from the 14th through the 21st; and one day in May for Memorial Day on the 26th. Middle School graduation is scheduled for June 24, with high school graduation the following day.
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10. If a snow day occurred between the adjournment of that meeting and Presidents’ Day weekend, a special meeting by the board would not be held to take action on a make up day, Donohoe said.
If necessary, where would you like to see the school district make up days? Spring break? End of the school year? Saturdays?
