Snowstorm Shuts Down School Early Tuesday

Morris School District and Morris Plains School District on a short schedule due to the impending storm.

The snow predicted to move into the area early Tuesday morning has triggered an early dismissal for students in the Morris Plains and Morris School District, according to officials.

All schools in the Morris School District will operate on a 4-Hr. 20 minute schedule and all after school activities and the Sunset program also are cancelled. 

The Morris Plains School District will will also have an early dismissal Tuesday, with classes dismissing at 12:45 p.m.. Preschool class will dismiss at 11:15 a.m.. 

According to the Morris County Office of Emergency Management's Jeff Paul, the data suggests snow arriving between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

"The snow is anticipated to be moderate to heavy at times with the heavier accumulation occurring between 3 p.m. and midnight," Paul said. 

The snow is anticipated to stop between 2 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning with snow accumulations estimated at 5-10 inches, Paul said. 

"With the anticipated strong winds, we may experience blowing and drifting snow," Paul said. "Please adjust your travel plans accordingly. Be safe."
