With , Morris School District Superintendent of Schools Thomas Ficarra said the District would continue to move ahead with its own investigation into events at Morristown High School weeks prior to the suicide of freshman Lennon Baldwin.
Ficarra's statement is below.
“I want to thank Prosecutor Bianchi and his team and the Morristown and Morris Township Police Departments for their tireless and aggressive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Lennon Baldwin. We have worked closely with Prosecutor Bianchi, Chief Demnitz and Acting Chief McGuiness to ensure that all information which might pertain to this tragedy has been readily available. Now that the initial phase of the criminal investigation is complete, the District will continue an internal review of this matter as it pertains to incidents at Morristown High School.
This review will include an examination of all policies and procedures that deal with harassment, intimidation and bullying as well as an examination of the timely implementation of these procedures.
As individuals and organizations we are reminded that we need to look inward to ask ourselves if there is more we can do to care for each other. In the days and weeks ahead the Morris School District will redouble its efforts to ensure a positive climate exists in every school in the district and that all students know they are supported.
As a father and educator, I again express my sincere condolences to the Baldwin family. This has been an unspeakable tragedy for the family and a difficult time for our entire community.”
