Ryan Swift, 17, a student, completed the Olympic Distance Red Bank Triathlon Sunday, May 15, finishing first in the 15-19 age group and 45th place overall. Ryan, who has swam competitively since age 6, capitialized on his strongest event. The 60 degree water eliminated many competitors quickly but Ryan emerged from the swim leg in 9th place overall. Quickly transitioning to the bike, Ryan maintained a 19 mile per hour pace of the 40 kilometer (24.6 mile) course. After a second quick transition Ryan completed the 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) run finishing 45th overall with a total time just under 2 hours 36 minutes.
Ryan will be a senior at Morristown High School this fall. He has been a varsity swimmer on the school team since his Freshman year. He also swims for Cougar Aquatic Team year round and the Morris Plains Marlins during the summer. Ryan is looking at the US Air Force Academy, Stanford, Princeton, Fordham, as well as The College of New Jersey and Rutgers. He intends to swim in college but would like to also compete with the college triathlon team.
