Golden Pineapple Returns to Morristown

Scaled back store leaves no room for the ordinary.

Dick and Donna Lohmeyer have changed and adapted to the times as business owners. As owners of the Horsefield Brothers building for three decades and proprietors of Morristown’s Shops at 14 Pine St. since 1996, they have seen conditions and economics change and they have not feared it.

In fact, the Lohmeyers embrace change.

Whether it be changing inventory in their shops, opening up a new retail opportunity to service a new set of customers or even selling off their building to focus on a smaller subset of their market the Lohmeyers will do whatever it takes to put their customers first.

“We sold the building but we’re not quite ready to retire yet,” Donna Lohmeyer said. “The man who bought the building is renovating it to live upstairs and we will rent a small space from him to run the Golden Pineapple.”

A symbol of hospitality, the Golden Pineapple was once the centerpiece of the Shops at 14 Pine Streets 10 room shopping experience and will now serve as the anchor point with a pair of stores coming in that are yet to be determined.

“I don’t know what they are going to be yet, but they are going to be great for Morristown,”  Lohmeyer said. “If the owner is going to live above it will be something special.”

The emphasis on quality is a recurring theme with the Lohmeyers, and the owners maintain that with space being so greatly reduced they will only be stocking the best of the best. Brands their customer love like Lampe Berger, Mariposa and Panier des Sens. Lohmeyer said everything in the store is hand-picked with no room for the ordinary. And that includes jewelry.

“I schlep into the city to pick out pieces,” Lohmeyer said. “Everything is chosen to be unique and we are carrying only our very best lines.”

With the holiday season upon us, Lohmeyer said that the store will be “going nuts” for Christmas, with ceramics, serving pieces, nativities and Santas. The store will continue to offer their signature gift wrap as well as daily shipping via UPS and USPS.

“We have wonderful gifts here. A lot of people, like us, are downsizing and we have the perfect glittery statement here they can use to brighten up a corner of their home,” Lohmeyer said.

The Golden Pineapple is located at 14 Pine St. in Morristown and is open Tuesday through Sunday. Hours will be expanding for the holiday season and anyone with questions can visit shop14pine.com or call 973-267-0400.
