Running into a buzz saw from Mendham, the competition faced a great challenge at the North 2, Group 3 sectional title indoor track meet recently, but the Morristown Colonials stood tall and took home second place.
The boys team scored 50 points, ahead of Randolph’s 45-point third place finish, and had several individual athletes with strong showings in the meet.
Senior Sean Lyons took gold in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:21.15, besting Mendham’s Paul Ehmann by just 0.81 seconds. Lyons also took gold in the 3,200 meter run.
Getting in on the gold was senior Sean Wukitsch, who dominated the shot put field with a 45-foot toss, beating the second place finisher by more than two feet. Sophomore Jaylon Jorge came in fifth in the event.
Senior Matt Anders added points for the team by coming in fifth in the 55-meter dash. The field of eight runners in the event were separated by just 0.23 seconds from first to last place.
Another incredibly tight race took place in the 800-meter run, which had Colonials place second, third, and eighth. The top three finishers were separated by just 1.34 seconds.
Seniors Rudy Torres and Greg Arabagian took silver and bronze in the event, respectively, with John Vallechi taking eighth in the 800-meter.
