Colonials Conquer Ramsey, Win Hockey Championship

Morristown scores with 33 seconds left in the game for one-goal win in title match.

If Queen’s We Are The Champions is belted through the streets of Morristown for the next few days, there’s good reason.

Morristown High School’s Colonial ice hockey team has won the New Jersey Public B championship by beating No. 2 seed Ramsey 1-0 at the Prudential Center in Newark Sunday night.

A scoreless game came down to the waning seconds before anyone scored, and it would be the difference maker as Brian Begley found the top of the net with 33.8 seconds remaining thanks to an assist from Cam Szary, according to nj.com.

It was just the second Colonial shot on goal in the entire period, and it was the only one needed.

The Colonials avenged their loss from last year’s championship game in the Public B semifinals by beating top-seed Chatham 2-1 to land in the title bout. Morristown ends the season with 16-8-4 record. Ramsey came into the contest with a 28-2 record.
