Hot Weather Shortens Verizon Classic

Morristown Police said that there is no change to the road closure, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

Weather.com shows that temperatures will be around 92 degrees at 7:30 p.m. when the Verizon Corporate Classic 5K starts. Due to the extreme weather, the event will still occur, but there are a few changes:

There will not be team nor individual competition and instead, of a 5K race, it will be a 2.2-mile "Fun Run/Walk" according to its website.

T-Shirts and goodie bags will still be available for all official entrants.

"We encourage all official entrants who are concerned about the weather conditions to choose not to run or walk the event tonight," said the website. "But come join us at the site anyway, pick up your race number, your T-shirt, and your Goodie Bag. Save your racing effort for another day."

Morristown Police said that there is no change to the road closure, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

  • At 5:30 p.m. Mills Street will be closed from Early Street to Sussex Avenue and there will be limited access to residents only.
  • At 5:30 p.m. Speedwell Avenue (Route 202) between Spring Street and North Park Place (the Green) will be closed.

As Morris County's largest fitness event, this Morristown-hosted event will benefit the Jersey Battered Women’s Service, Inc. Also, bring your old, unused wireless phones to donate at the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program phone drive, according to the road race’s website.
