Morristown High School Boys Basketball Flaws Exposed in Loss to Morris Knolls

Colonials cannot match-up physically against Morris Knolls in 62-46 loss.

Morristown High School boys basketball fell behind early on in their game against Morris Knolls at home on Thursday, Feb. 3, and were never able to catch up, being outmatched by the much bigger opposing team. Morristown ended up losing the game, 62-46.

The Colonials seemed to never quite be in the game as they played from behind all night. Their flaws were exposed by a bigger and better Morris Knolls team that took advantage of Morristown’s lack of size and experience.

It was apparent that Morristown was missing a big piece in their game, that being size. Playing without a “big man,” it became increasingly difficult to defend the onslaught of penetrating offense by Morris Knolls, who did major damage under the basket. Morris Knolls juniors Kevin Miller, who is listed at 6-foot-7, and Niko Kotoulas, listed at 6-foot-5, were two examples of size on the court and they both easily towered over anyone Morristown put in to defend them.

Despite the obvious disadvantages, Morristown still managed to score. Senior Captain James Pisciotto (20-points), who started off by missing his first four shot attempts, picked up steam late as he drained several three-point shots that put the Colonials within arms reach in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Acquil Malik was the team's second highest scorer with only eight points as the points were distributed evenly throughout the rest of the team.

It was difficult for Pisciotto to hold it all on his shoulders as Morris Knolls answered every one of Morristown’s points with a few of their own, eventually closing the deal and putting the Colonials away.

Morristown, who came off a win again Montville days earlier, couldn’t keep it going as it is apparent they are unable to go toe to toe with any of the tougher opponents in the division. It has been a long season for Morristown who is in the process of rebuilding their very young and inexperienced team.

The Colonials travel next to Jersey City on Tuesday, Feb. 8 as they face off against Dickinson High School, at 7 p.m.
