Volunteers Wanted for Sandy Relief Work Trip to Union Beach this Saturday with the Presbyterian Church in Morristown

PCM Sandy Relief Task Force holds another work trip to Union Beach, NJ, this Saturday. Volunteers welcome! Worship at 9:15 and 11 AM Sunday, and Dr. Morris Davis on the history of Christian missions.

The Sandy Relief Task Force, established by The Presbyterian Church in Morristown's Outreach Committee, is coordinating another work trip to Union Beach, NJ on Saturday, April 27 for the rehabilitation of primary homes.  We had forty volunteers on our last trip which was very productive.  A typical work day runs approximately from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  We will meet at the Parish House (65 South Street, Morristown) at 7:30 a.m. and carpool to Union Beach, arriving at the Union Beach Borough Building (650 Poole Ave, Union Beach) no later than 9 a.m. We will return to the Parish House at approximately 6 p.m.  Please check this page regularly to keep up on activity in Union Beach. On Sunday April 28 at 9:15 a.m. in the parlor of the PCM Parish House on 65 South St, Dr. Morris Davis, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of the History of Christianity at Drew Theological School, will lead a seminar on the history of what has become known among Christians as “missions.”  This session will focus on the last 100 years when missions became a central focus of Protestant church life. We will explore not only the institutional history of missions, but the culture of missions itself and its larger place in American life and culture. He will discuss the ways in which missions have changed, those to whom missionaries were sent, and those back home who sent them.  Dr. Davis' teaching and research are in the broad field of Christianity in the Americas including race, nationalism and the history of missions.  Dr. Davis spent much of his childhood in Africa as the son of missionaries.

Also on Sunday morning,  come join us for two worship services at 9:15 and 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of The Presbyterian Church in Morristown on 57 East Park Place.  Reverend Dr. David Smazik will lead the service with the sermon "Irrefutable Proof."  Be advised that one set of doors to our Sanctuary is being restored, but the rest are open.  Child care is available in our Howard House facility next door.  Church school for ages 2 - 14 will be at 9:15 a.m. at the PCM Parish House, 65 South Street, Morristown.
