Morristown to Fill Gsell's Empty Council Seat this Week

Also, the 19th annual Gem, Mineral & Fossil Sale is later this week in Morristown

Kevin Gsell resigned from Morristown town council on July 8 and according to vacancy law, “the Morristown Democratic Committee needs to provide three names to the town council. They have to do that within 15 days. The council has 30 days from when the vacancy occurs to name somebody to the council from those three names,” said Matt Stechauner, Morristown Town Clerk.

“Kevin Gsell resigned his position because he bought a house in Morris Township,” said Stechauner.

On Tuesday last week, Mary Dougherty, chair of the Morristown Democratic Committee, sent Stechauner the three names:

The meeting to pick one of these three is Monday at 7 p.m. at Morristown Town Hall.

The meeting will begin with a public hearing followed by council interview and questions of Nominees for filling vacancy on Morristown Town Council.

Recently, the Morristown Athletic Council and the Morristown High School Touchdown Club announced that the Junior Colonials Football club and the Morristown Wildcats Football club mutually agreed to combine their youth athletic programs, according to Tim Heaton

Heaton added that "the children in the Morris School District will now have one football and cheerleading program in town, focused on friendships and athletics. This combined organization will take effect immediately so we can quickly prepare for a successful 2013 season."

This Monday is the strict deadline for registration.

Also, on Saturday, the Morris Museum Mineralogical Society will sponsor its 19th annual Gem, Mineral & Fossil Sale. It runs from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Delbarton School in Morristown. Admission and parking are free and the Sale takes place indoors in an air conditioned facility. All are invited!
