Cheap Trick Wants You to Want Them This Weekend

Also, the Chatham Players hold a Saturday costume sale and check out Poets in the Garden on Sunday.

If you remember and adore the wild and fun rock and roll of the band Cheap Trick (and what 1970s or '80s baby doesn't?), you are in luck. The band, which features stellar guitarist Rick Nielsen (who, if you didn't know, composed the theme to Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report"), performs at the Mayo Performing Arts Center Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $59-$99 and can be purchased online or at the Mayo box office, 100 South St.

On Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the Chatham Players host the Chatham Playhouse Costume Sidewalk Sale just in time to help you prepare for Halloween. Motivated by the need to make some room in the theater's costume loft, sale racks of clothing and costumes in all sizes are being offered at ridiculous prices. The Playhouse can be found in Chatham at 23 N. Passaic Ave.

It's not just time for back to school. Mary Lou Hale's School of Dance in Parsippany wants you to know that it's also time for boys and girls to head back to dance class. Hence, Saturday's Back To Dance Sale at Mary Lou's. All dancewear in stock is Buy One, Get One 1/2 Off. The sale runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. (If you miss it this weekend, another opportunity comes Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.) More info at Mary Lou Hale's or by calling 973-334-1921. Find the school in Lake Hiawatha at 135 N. Beverwyck Road.

The Macculloch Hall Historical Museum hosts its 16th annual “Poets in the Garden” program Sunday at 4 p.m. Poet Ellen Doré Watson will present her work in the museum’s historic gardens.  Guests may picnic and are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Tickets include a house tour through the period rooms of the museum for visitors who opt to sign up.  Visitors can also enjoy the “Thomas Nast: President Maker and Campaign Breaker” and the “American Heroes in Bronze” exhibits prior to the presentation. Admission is Adults $8 for general adults; $6 for seniors and students, $4 for kids 6-12 and free for younger ones. No dogs are allowed during programs in the garden.

Singles, get dressed up and come out for networking. The Blue Morel Restaurant and Wine Bar offers a Singles' Elegant Social for unmarried adults over age 40 sponsored by the Professional and Business Singles Network. There will be a cash bar with a Bar Bites menu created by Chef Kevin. Connect with new friends and consider enjoying an optional dinner from the Sunday Supper 3-Course Menu. Membership is not required, just drop in to meet, greet and have fun. Admission is $20 at the door or $15 if purchased online via Eventbrite. For info, call 610-348-5544.
