Since 1798, Morris County has been governed by an elected Board of Chosen Freeholders. The seven members serve three-year terms, and their main duties are to prepare a budget as legislators and spend the funds as administrators. Though Freeholder is a part-time position, the members often work the job full-time, overseeing the dozens of county departments, divisions, authorities, commissions, boards and study committees. The Board of Chosen Freeholders also regulates county property, finances and affairs.<br /><br />Public meetings of the Board of Chosen Freeholders are held regularly on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, except holidays, starting at 7:30pm in the Freeholders Public Meeting Room on the 5th floor of the County Administration and Records Building, Court Street, Morristown.
