FAIR WARNING TO PATIENTS COVERED BY HORIZON BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF NEW JERSEY: Morristown Memorial Medical Center is a Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield in-network hospital, however, by signing the consent form at admission, patients allow their lab specimens to be sent to Morristown Pathology, an in-house lab that is out-of-network. Patients are not informed of this fact at admission. Instead, after they receive a rejection from Horizon for payment of their pathology bills, they also get a form letter from Morristown Pathology informing them that the lab is out-of-network. This is "bait and switch" of the lowest order. The hospital is taking advantage of people at their most vulnerable. Morristown Medical Center touts its dedication to treating patients in an "efficient, professional, compassionate manner." The doctors, nurses and other medical personnel may well share that but the business managers do not subscribe to best practices and victimize the very people the medical staff treats. The "patient advocates" on staff are anything but: they are only mouthpieces for an unethical and immoral money-grubbing management. Forewarned is forearmed. Don't let them do to you what they did to me. Demand on admission that your labwork is done by a Horizon in-network lab and don't take "no" for an answer.

My husband went for spinal surgery on Mon, Oct 29. We were early & told Dr Giordan had cancellations & they would get my husband in early-no one told the dr or his nurse my husband was there. He arrived at 8am and did not get taken into surgery until 12:00. The nurse said the dr goes in order-he had 3 surgeries that morning & the 2 other patients were late. On Thurs & Fri we had an awful nurse named Cythia, she was cold & rude. We rarely asked for her help & when we did she brushed us off & took her time, especially at the time of my husband's discharge. On this day, she waited an hour after confirming he could leave to call to get someone to remove the tube-only after I asked. I dressed him and prepared him to leave. We waited for 30 min for a wheel chair, while she sat at the desk in front of us the entire time saying they must be busy. She finally called again right before the dinner trays came. We figured he should eat something before we left and the first time she left her seat was when we opened the food tray, she kept telling us we did not have to wait we could just walk out, we no longer needed a wheel chair - it appeared she had plans for his dinner. We were walking out to the elevator when we met the person with the wheel chair who took my husband on a ride throughout the entire hospital, up and down elevators, ending on the floor below my husband's room and going to the front door (not anywhere near where I told him I parked! Never expected this at a hospital!

This is the only place I would go if I were ill. I feel so safe with these doctors and nurses!
