Why Does My Traffic Light Talk While Yours Beeps?

"You Ask ... Patch Answers" continues to tackle burning questions in the community.

Why are there talking traffic lights in town? Why do some beep? Why do most of them do nothing? This is the latest question in Morristown Patch's newest series, "You Ask ... Patch Answers," where we want to hear what queries you have about things around town. Last week, we found out why a police officer is directing traffic outside Kings, but seemingly nowhere else. "Walk sign is on ... walk sign is on ... walk sign is ..." You have probably heard it, the disembodied vaguely European female voice informing people crossing South Street that–wait for it–the walk sign is now on and they can cross. Well, I know the sign is on, I can see the sign is on. Why does this light need to tell me the sign is on? For that matter, why does the sign …
