Simon Gallery anniversary party will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

As Harry Simon reflects on his time at Simon Gallery—opened in the space once the longtime face of the Morristown Typewriter Exchange, his family's business—he looks on his desk at the very first article written about his and wife Mary Ellen's newest endeavor in 1996. "Sixteen years later, I've got to put my glasses on to read it," he said with a laugh. While the 38-year-old with pitch-dark beard and better vision today has a little more salt to his pepper and a pair of spex balanced on his nose, the 54-year-old Harry Simon's mission for Simon Gallery remains the same as it did when its 1,200-square-foot gallery and 2,000-square-foot storeroom opened on Oct. 25, 1996. Farewell, 'Lava Rock Mountain'

Curious structure at Water Street traffic signal on the Green to be repurposed for flower beds.

For years, drivers cutting past Headquarters Plaza and the 1776 on the Green, either down to Spring Street or up to the Green via Water Street, have been greeted by an unusual artistic installation at the Water Street and Park Place light.  What was it? "It was a freaky mountain thing," Kendra Arnold, co-founder of Bike and Walk Morristown said when she noticed on Thursday that "freaky mountain thing," a collection of various odd rocks, was gone during her group's midday mile walk. Business Administrator Michael Rogers said the piece, unofficially called "Lava Rock Mountain," had been removed by the town in order to conduct sidewalk repairs.  While Lava Rock Mountain won't be coming back in its previous form, it's not going away completely…
