Arts Council Celebrates 40 Years With New Name

MorrisArts kicking off celebration of four decades.

What's in a name? For members of Morristown's Arts Council of the Morris Area, its new name, MorrisArts, means a streamlined approach to what has now been 40 years of serving what was originally seen as an arts-starved region. Announcing its 40th anniversary kickoff on Jan. 24, the Arts Council of the Morris Area heralded its new name, new strategic plan, new logo and new mission at a gathering of nearly 100 at its 14 Maple Ave. headquarters in Morristown.   Board President Alan Levitan and Executive Director Tom Werder shared some of the history of the organization, which was formally incorporated on May 10, 1973. 21st Art in the Atrium Exhibit Opens Jan. 25

Opening reception, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Looking for a little more culture in your life? Look no further than the Administration and Records Building. The Arts Council of the Morris Area invites the public to attend the free opening reception for its 21st "Art in the Atrium" African-American art exhibit, titled "Generation Next." The reception will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Atrium Gallery, which is location on floors two-through-five in the Morris County Administration and Records Building in Morristown. Featured artist for this latest exhibit is Janet Taylor Pickett, whose works are on display on the fifth floor. She will give a talk at 7 p.m. as part of the evening’s festivities. Final 'Music Without Borders' Event Goes Russian

Free summer lunchtime program held Tuesday on the Green.

The weather could not have been better Tuesday for the final "Music Without Borders" free lunchtime music program of the summer. Featuring Barynya–a Russian folk ensemble performing Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Russian Jewish, and Roma Gypsy traditional dancing, music and songs–the "Music Without Borders" program is presented by the Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown United Methodist Church and Arts Council of the Morris Area.

Music Without Borders Returns to the Green

Free outdoor world music series premiered Tuesday, June 26.

Feel like taking in a little culture during your lunch break? Then, check out Music Without Borders–sponsored by The Arts Council of the Morris Area, Mayo Performing Arts Center and Morristown United Methodist Church–which returns for a second year. On Tuesday at noon, the Mariachi Citlalli band entertained those gathered on the Green. Three more shows are set for July 10, July 24 and Aug. 7.

Atrium Gallery Opening Reception Set for May 31
