Morris School District on Delayed Opening Schedule Thursday

Nor'easter bringing snow, heavy winds through Wednesday evening.

Weather and its effects continue to play a factor in the Morris School District, which will experience delayed openings Thursday because of the wind-producing nor'easter that also was proving much more a snow event than previously anticipated. A notice via the Honeywell alert service went out shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday night saying elementary schools will open two hours later than usual. Buses also will be delayed by two hours. As was the case Wednesday, Frelinguyhuysen Middle School will share a split schedule with Morristown High School at the high school, with FMS reporting at 9:30 a.m. and high school students reporting at noon. According to the Morris School District website, power remains out at three schools: FMS, Hillcrest …

JCP&L Has Not Met Their Restoration Timeframe, Mayor Says

New target for complete power restoration in Morristown is Saturday, Tim Dougherty says.

To the Editor: The current weather system will increase in severity over the next 3-5 hours. Please be cautious, stay away from down wires, trees and poles and stay off the road as much as possible. At this point JCP&L has not met it's 10-day time frame for power restorations. With the current weather system and recent accidents in town, a half to a full day of restoration efforts have been lost. We expect JCP&L to continue all efforts beginning again tomorrow (Thursday). I hear and understand the frustrations of those residents that remain without power. It is important to know that we are pushing JCP&L for power restoration times. In the most recent communication with the JCP&L President, the new target for complete power restoration is …

County OEM Ready For 'Another Weather Maker'

Officials keeping Morris County Emergency Operations Center open for residents as second storm strikes.

They are calling the snow storm Athena, and for the battered and beleagured residents of Morris County, it couldn't be arriving at a worse time. But the good news, is that even though the forecast for Wednesday into Thursday is windy, rainy and snowy, the Emergency Operation Center is prepared to burn the midnight oil as they did since they ramped up for Hurricane Sandy. "The county is ready from a preparedness perspective," said Director of Emergency Management Jeff Paul before the Sandy struck last week. "Everyone has done phenomenal job getting ready and we're ready to offer support." The OEM will continue to serve as the central point for municipalities to interact with and their local coordinator will work to get them resources …

Mark Your Calendars: Nov. 7, First Snow of the Season

One week after tropical storm, Morristown area hit with wintry mix.

By noon Wednesday, the white stuff was in the air. And, no, we're not talking about the mass of shredded paper pulp that was dumped on the sidewalk near the Green after Sandy came through. Because everything needs to have a name in the media, what is now being called Winter Storm Athena is expected to not only bring snow and, later, rain, but also wind gusts of potentially over 40 miles per hour. Officials here Tuesday called for caution, as some still deal with issues related to last week's storm. Enough is enough? At least for one young child at Starbucks, the wintery stuff was just fine. "It's snowing really hard right now, it's really getting hard," she said, before telling her father on the phone, "I'm having a cream cheese bagel." At…
