Who says something functional cannot also be art? Certainly not Marty's Reliable Cycle, which brings its "Art of the Bicycle" show back to their Morristown location. The free event, an "exposition of art expressed through various mediums, all inspired by the bicycle," will open 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 6. Also on hand will be bike-themed gift items, with proceeds benefitting Bike and Walk Morristown. The show runs until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. Check out Patch's coverage of the inaugural event in 2010 here.

Tensions between bicyclists and motorists are in the spotlight this summer and we believe it’s time we all took more responsibility for cooling the confrontation and sharing the road. We represent bicycle clubs and organizations with over 2,000 members in NW and Central NJ. Each of us is also a motorist. We understand sharing the road from behind the wheel of a car as well as on a bicycle. We are as upset as anyone when a bicyclist does not ride safely or a group of cyclists block the road and surround a car as reportedly happened in Tewksbury this summer. The Morris County Park Commission envisions continuing the trail from Ford Mansion to Madison, running between the rail line and the backyards of Madison homes.
A plan by the Morris County Park Commission to extend the Traction Line Recreation Trail, which runs from Morristown National Historical Park in Morristown along a New Jersey Transit line and ends at Danforth Road in Madison at Fairleigh Dickinson University, has detractors and supporters. The Park Commission envisions continuing the 10-foot wide, paved path to Elm Street, running between the rail line and the backyards of Madison homes. Opponents, including the entire Madison Borough Council, cite privacy concerns for the neighboring homeowners, while supporters, including the mayor, say expanding a trail that connects Morristown and Madison would be good for the borough. The entire six-member Borough Council not only unanimously voted …

TransOptions, Marty's Reliable Cycle-organized event held on May 9.
Call it a sophomore slump. At last year's inaugural "Commuter Challenge," a bike, folding bike and Chevrolet Volt competed against each other to see which would get from Madison to Morristown the fastest. In the end, Matthew Vance's Daikon folding bicycle beat the rest. But, in this year's follow-up, the rules were a little altered to better mirror real-world situations. Instead of everyone starting from the Madison train station, they started from Drip Coffee on Main Street. That meant Vance would have to take his bike over to the train station first. Also new this year was the addition of several other riders, including Marty Epstein of Marty's Reliable Cycle, Paul Miller of Sustainable Morristown and a pair of electric bike riders, Eric…
