Franklin Township High School student-produced and performed anti-bullying production will be seen at 7 p.m. Thursday at Morristown High School.
The suicide of Morristown High School freshman Lennon Baldwin earlier this year rocked the community, and brought back into the forefront the question of what can be perceived as bullying and how far some may go to end it. The connection between that tragedy and the Thursday showing of "Shadows," an anti-bullying program created by students and faculty at Franklin Township High School in Somerset County, is not lost on Greg DiGioacchino, dean of students for Morristown High School. But, bullying goes beyond just one person or situation—it is persistent. "We're looking to keep this kind of stuff on the forefront," DiGioacchino said of the program, which was created by Franklin Township High School's Applied Theatre program based on 700 …

The Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders is partnering with several nonprofit organizations to sponsor a program for adults on bullying, cyberbullying and youth depression on Nov. 1. The free program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the county's Public Safety Training Academy, 500 W. Hanover Ave. in Parsippany. It will feature a presentation from John Halligan, a Vermont man whose 13-year-old son, Ryan, took his own life nine years ago after being bullied by classmates at school and online. In memory of his son and just a few months after his son’s death, Halligan spearheaded the Vermont Bullying Prevention law in 2004. His efforts also lead to the passing of a law in 2006 pertaining to suicide prevention education in public schools. …

Following the June 28 anti-bullying symposium in Parsippany, United Way of Northern New Jersey has issued a press release about its collaborative efforts here tackling the issue. The recent high-profile bullying tragedies in the state spotlight the need for the state and educators to focus energies equally on prevention as on documentation of bullying cases, according to a United Way of Northern New Jersey official. While the state’s new anti-bullying law singles out the importance of a healthy school culture as the key to successful prevention efforts, there are few comprehensive approaches provided to help schools address their climate and culture, said Liz Warner, United Way Youth Empowerment Alliance manager. United Way has teamed up …

A trial date of July 24 has been set for two youths accused of robbing the Morristown High School freshman who later killed himself in his Morris Township home, according to a DailyRecord.com article. The two males, who were 17 at the time of the alleged incident, appeared for a brief status conference on their charges before Superior Court family division Judge Michael Paul Wright Monday, according to the article. They, along with 19-year-old Michael Conway, allegedly confronted Lennon Baldwin on March 12 in the Century 21 parking lot and robbed him, calling it payback for an incident earlier that month where one of the youths was suspended following an alleged assault on Baldwin caught on Morristown High School's security cameras. The two minors charged with threatening and robbing 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin, the Morris Township resident who later committed suicide, are due in family court June 25 for a conference before a trial is scheduled or pleas are taken, according to an article in the Daily Record. The juveniles, whose names have not been released because they are underage, were charged recently–along with 19-year-old Michael Conway–with a series of offenses including assault and robbery against Baldwin, a freshman at Morristown High School. The incidents happened just weeks before Baldwin killed himself on March 28. To see the complete Daily Record article, click here.

Morris prosecutor's findings of violence against Lennon Baldwin show New Jersey's anti-bullying law isn't enough.
The suicide of a child is a tragedy under any circumstance, but it became even more so given the fact that it happened after New Jersey’s enactment of a tough anti-bullying law. From all accounts, Lennon Baldwin was a pretty typical 15-year old. He played Xbox (Call of Duty) and basketball. He loved cats and watched South Park. He played guitar and drums and bowled a 258 (OK, that’s extraordinary). He was kind and had a great sense of humor. He was the kind of kid any parent would be proud of and any teen would be lucky to be. So much potential and a lifetime of anything’s-possible ahead. But the criminal investigation into the events surrounding Baldwin’s death seems to indicate that Lennon wasn’t leading the carefree life teens in high …

Several incidents occurred weeks before 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin's death on March 28, according to police.
Authorities say 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin, a freshman at Morristown High School, was the victim of an assault at the school, told to lie about it and then robbed in the Century 21 parking lot just weeks before committing suicide on March 28 in his Morris Township home. Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi—flanked by First Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Zelante, County Prosecutor's Office Capt. Jeffrey Paul, Morristown Police Chief Peter Demnitz and Morris Township Acting Chief of Police John McGuinness—announced Wednesday the charges against two Morristown juveniles and 19-year-old Morristown resident Michael Conway for their alleged involvement in the incidents in early March. Some have said bullying led to Baldwin taking his own life. …

Lennon Baldwin's death prompts conversation throughout Morristown area.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012
We don't know for certain that Lennon Baldwin was bullied. Authorities have acknowledged they're looking into that possibility after the Morristown High School teen's death last week, but they haven't announced any conclusions. In fact, they haven't said yet whether his death was indeed a suicide, though several media outlets have reported it as such, and statements authorities and loved ones have made publically reflect that understanding. But what is certain is that his death has prompted conversation about bullying and its potentially tragic impacts in Morristown and nearby communities. In countless online posts (such as those at the R.I.P. Lennon Baldwin Facebook Page), in gatherings such as Lennon's funeral service, loved ones and …
