UPDATE: Shake It! Burgers and Dogs is Out of Business

The burger-centric restaurant in the location of the former Cha Cha Cha Cuban Bistro was open less than a year.

After a little less than a year, Cha Cha Cha's burger-centric replacement has closed its doors. Paper has gone up on the door and windows and a sign has announced that, as of Jan. 11, Shake It! Burgers and Dogs has ceased operations. "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and, again, we thank you for your business," the brief note to customers reads. No reason was provided for the closure. Shake It! Burgers and Dogs opened on Washington Street just last February, on the heels of Don's Burgers, Fries and Fountain's January 2012 opening. It replaced the former Cha Cha Cha Cuban Bistro. Those owners--also owners of Sushi Lounge across the street--cited at the time that Cha Cha Cha was in need of a larger space. Owner Ray …

Doesn't anyone realize the health implications of eating all this junky food? Why can't we find a vegan and vegetarian restaurant in this town? or better yet, an ORGANIC restaurant. There are plenty of them in places alot less savvy than Morristown. I don't get it. Didn't anyone watch Food, inc or Forks vs Knives?   more ›

Shake It! Burgers & Dogs: Then There Were Two

Another burger-centric restaurant in town; how does it compare to the other one?

Let the debate commence. While there are many places in Morristown where one can get a burger, there was no "burger-centric" place until Don's Burgers, Fries & Fountain opened the other week. Scratch that. Now, there are two. Shortly after Don's opened, another burger joint, Shake It! Burgers & Dogs, opened up in the space formerly occupied by Cha Cha Cha, courtesy the same owners (who also own Sushi Lounge). Is this a new dining trend in Morristown, along the lines of the apparent glut of self-serve frozen yogurt places that is about to happen? Unlike the froyo (Taro, already open; Cups, opening mid-March; and Strawberry Fields, TBD) situation–where three essentially identical types of business will be operating almost literally a stone's…

Love Shake it. You can't compare Dons to Shake It. Everytime i go there i get a container of their chili to bring home. its not on the menu but they been doing it for me since they opened. try the turkey cranberry burgers too. the only thing that is frozen are the fries, but for a few cents more just get their onion rings. Nothing really ever lasted in that location, i hope shake it does.   more ›

Question: Where is the Best Burger in Morristown?

Given the passion, we had to ask.

We didn't realize that when, on Tuesday, we posted an article noting five places besides Don's where we've gone for burgers, that people would be as passionate as they were when it came to our choices. Why didn't we mention Tashmoo? Why didn't we mention Grasshopper off the Green? Urban Table? Several, both here and on our Facebook page, decried our lack of mention of Arthur's Tavern, which apparently has a great burger. That may be the case, but as you may or may not know, Arthur's is in Morris Plains, and we must draw the line somewhere. So, today, we're leaving this debate in your hands: Who, do you think, has the best burger in Morristown? Is it the newly-opened Don's Burgers, Fries and Fountain? The Office? The Famished Frog? …

I would probably have to go with Sebastian's, it's on the pricey side but well worth it. Still eager to give Don's a go, some of the old-timers were reminiscing about the one in Livingston in the 80's, so I'll make my way there when they work out the kinks and slow down a bit.   more ›

Burgers, Burgers, Burgers, Burgers

Don's is not the only place in town to grab one.

Today is a special day for carnivores. At 11 a.m., Don's Burgers finally opens its doors to the public. So, in honor of this occasion, we wanted to spread the love around a little and reintroduce you to five other fine, meaty options you may want to consider when the line at the new place is a little too long.
