Health Shoppe Closing Doors After Over 40 Years

Morristown and Chester locations closing to customers at end of June, unless a buyer can be found.

As he recalled over 40 years of serving the health-conscious community, 73-year-old co-owner Steve Shapiro wiped a forming tear from his eye. The Health Shoppe, on Morris Street in Morristown and in Chester, has been much more to him than just a business. But, unless a buyer can be found, that business will shutter its doors to customers at the end of June. "It's devastating for us," said Shapiro, who opened the original Morristown location with brother Herb in 1970. Chester followed in 1977. Smaller locations in Montclair (1978) and Parsippany (1983), were closed last year. Shapiro partially credits last August's hurricane to the decision. The business lost about $100,000 from damage, which insurance was unable to reimburse. The business …

It is very sad and the Chester Health Shoppe will always be missed but there is some good news! A new health food store has just opened only a couple doors down next to Radio Shack and the deli near Starbucks. It is called Back to Nature and it carries many of the same brands of supplements and foods as the Chester Health Shoppe did. They are even getting ready to open a juice bar!   more ›
