Crews are set to transform former froyo joint into an investment firm.
Apparently, one Morristown business trend is replacing another. The Mutual Fund Store just opened in a nearby space that had been empty since at least Morristown Patch's inception. And, before anyone could take a breath, crews were seen Monday setting to turning the former Tart & Tufo--arguably the lead horse in the frozen yogurt phenomenon--into an Edward Jones Investments. A person at property owner The Silverman Group could not confirm an opening date. Ask some (or, just go through many of our snarkier, saltier comments over the past two-and-a-half years) and they may tell you these investment advisory firms are just an extension of the bank trend that swallowed up a lot of real estate in Morristown over the past decade. Places like …

The third self-serve frozen yogurt business in Morristown opened at 88 South St. on May 12.
The battle for self-serve frozen yogurt dominance in Morristown just got a little more crowded. Strawberry Fields, located at 88 South St.–where the library had a temporary storefront for several months following the May 2010 explosion–opened on Friday, May 12. An official "Grand Opening" celebration is slated for Saturday, May 19, with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Tim Dougherty scheduled for 5 p.m. This is the third location for Strawberry Fields, which first opened last year in Maplewood, then in New Providence in March. Several other locations also are in the works. Like other self-serve froyo joints that have popped up all over the place (including two others in Morristown, Taro and CUPS), Strawberry Fields features a selection…

First, there was Taro. Now, CUPS Frozen Yogurt has joined what is shaping up to be a crowded self-serve froyo market, as a third, Strawberry Fields, is still expected to join the fray sometime this year. CUPS, located between Zebu Forno and the forthcoming Iron Bar, has several locations in New Jersey, including its debut location in Clifton, and in East Hanover. The Morristown location already was open for the Morris County St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, but will officially open its doors for business on Friday, March 16. The press release is below: Morristown, NJ – March 12 – CUPS Frozen Yogurt, the beach-themed self-serve fro-yo concept, will open its fourth New Jersey location at 11 am on Friday, March 16 at 7 South Street in …

The first of three expected self-serve froyo joints ready to serve.
It might be cool outside, but with the weather the way it has been, you never know. We've had 60-plus degree days, and a snowstorm in October. Whether the weather outside is frightful or like a furnace, Taro Frozen Yogurt is ready to serve its chilly treats. Yan Lin, whose family owns the Aikou restaurants in Morristown and Flemington, opened the self-serve frozen yogurt business at 41 South St. on Nov. 27–amidst what is likely to be some pretty stiff competition in coming months, as two other frozen yogurt places, Cups and Strawberry Fields, are poised to join them on South Street. For those unfamiliar with this growing dessert trend, customers serve themselves from a selection of fruits, nuts and various sweets, the fat-free frozen …

I'm glad that there is not an empty storefront here in MTwn but we already have too many Banks & Investment firms on street level. When I first moved to MTwn - the green was a vibrant and interesting collection of retail stores - people shopping, strolling and socializing. Now customers come, do their business and leave. No reason to hang because there is not much else going on. I think it really…   more ›
