Last Defendant Sentenced in Lennon Baldwin Bullying Case

Mother of Morristown freshman who committed suicide last March after bullying reportedly said other teen showed not 'hint of remorse.'

Michael Conway, 19, who changed his story after first telling police he was not present at bullying incidents that preceeded the suicide of Morristown High School freshman Lennon Baldwin in March 2012, has been sentenced to three years' probation, NJ.com reported. The victim's mother, Sharon Varnelas, said in a victim-impact statement that the older Morristown teen "stood by and watched while criminals terrorized, threatened and stole money from a much younger and sorely outnumbered Lennon," according to the Friday report in NJ.com. Conway’s attorney, Edmund DeNoia, said in Superior Court in Morristown that Conway had not been involved with bullying, threats or robbery. Authorities say 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin, a freshman at Morristown …

I didn't know possession of a BB gun was illegal. They sell them right out in the open at Sports Authority. But, the best thing to do when the cops ask you questions is to invoke your right to remain silent. Or just say that you aren't sure, you don't remember...   more ›

Michael Conway, 19, was indicted on false swearing charges in October.

The man accused of lying about his knowledge regarding the robbery of 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin in the Century 21 parking lot—which preceeded Baldwin's suicide at his Morris Township home later that month—pleaded not guilty to false swearing charges Monday, according to a Star-Ledger article.  A Morris County grand jury indicted 19-year-old Michael Conway back in October, charging the Morristown resident with false swearing by giving authorities misinformation between April 6 and April 18 after he vowed to tell the truth. His charges, and those handed down to two others, stemmed from several bullying incidents against Baldwin—first at Morristown High School and later in the department store parking lot. Authorities have argued that the …

I have had the pleasure of knowing Michael since he was about 11. He is someone my oldest son considers his best friend although they have fallen out of contact the last 2 years. Michael spent much time with my family and has always proven to be quiet, polite and mindful. The charges being brought on him are ones that I cannot equate with such a child. I am not here to contest what he is being …   more ›
