School Security Focus of County Prosecutor Summit

Morris County residents are invited to come, learn and share ideas about making schools safer.

Since the Newtown shootings, school safety has been on the minds of many throughout the nation and here at home. In an effort to generate community discussion on the topic, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office wants to get citizens talking. In partnership with the East Hanover School District, the New Jersey Department of Education and the Morris County Superintendent of Schools, the prosecutor's office is sponsoring a Morris County School Safety and Security Summit. The event is scheduled for next Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy at 500 W. 24 Arrests Made in Attempted Murder, Gang Probe

Prosecutors from Morris, Essex, Union and Warren counties led seven-month investigation.

A multi-agency, joint investigation has led to 24 arrests for attempted murder, gang activity, weapons charges and running a drug operation, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday morning. More information into the arrests and the seven-month investigation led by the prosecutor's offices from Morris, Warren, Essex and Union counties will be released at a news conference Saturday at 3 p.m. UPDATE: Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi called the bust "the largest in Morris County history." Read more here. More arrests are expected, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Bianchi's Overhaul of Prosecutor's Office Earns Award

Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association names him Prosecutor of the Year.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi will be named "Prosecutor of the Year" by the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association Tuesday. The award will be presented at a ceremony during the group's 42nd Annual Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Atlantic City. The conference continues through Friday. According to the association, Bianchi was picked because of his "significant overhaul of the investigative mission of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office." It notes Bianchi, who was appointed to the prosecutor post in 2007, created his office's Intelligence Crime Task Force, under the same command structure as its Special Enforcement Unit.
