After a foot pursuit after a wanted man last year, two local officers were recently recognized. Morris Twp. Officer Clay Boeninghaus and Hanover Twp. Officer Paul Gundersdorf received the Distinguished Service Award from ASIS International on Tuesday. On July 14 last year, Hanover Township Police responded to a home invasion. The intruder—later indentified as Nisees Ingram, 26 of Irvington—got into the home by using the garage remote from the victim’s car parked in her driveway. Morristown cops said they saw the SUV filled with smoke.
New York Jets cut defensive end Claude Davis and cornerback Cliff Harris a day after they were arrested in Morristown and charged with possession of marijuana. They will go through the waiver process before becoming free agents. On Monday night, Davis and Harris—both from Parsippany—were with another man, Morristown resident Daniel Godfrey, who faces gun charges as well. A Morristown resident faces gun and drug charges and two Parsippany men were charged with marijuana possession after Morristown police said they found them in a smoke-filled SUV with a loaded handgun parked on Clyde Potts Drive Monday night. Officer Roberto Rosado said he saw people sitting in a rented 2013 Chevy Tahoe around 9:20 p.m. The inside of the car seemed like it was filled with smoke, said police. After monitoring the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 9, Detective Brendan Briscoe was in plain clothes when he spotted two men urinating in an alleyway around 10 p.m. near 95 Morris Street, as reported by NJ.com. After showing his badge, identifying himself as a police officer and asking for their identification, Briscoe said in his report that the first man refused to give Briscoe his ID. Wheels and tires of cars were stolen in four different locations in Morristown on Sunday, according to Morristown Police Department Capt. Steven Sarinelli. The incidents happened on Hill Street, Ford Avenue, Franklin Place and Sunset Place. Sarinelli said the cars from which the wheels were stolen were placed on cinder blocks after 1 a.m. Morristown police officers and officers from the Morris County Sheriff's Department responded to the locations to investigate. Similar thefts were reported in Morris Township also on Sunday night, Sarinelli said. The Morristown and Morris Township Police Departments are working jointly in the investigation of the thefts. John C. Pirres worked with people with learning disabilities and AIDS.
A pedestrian killed in a Morristown crosswalk volunteered with people with AIDS and learning disabilities. John Pirres was crossing the street near 65 Madison Avenue around 7:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2011 black Dodge Durango, according to a release sent by Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp's office. Pirres, a resident of Hamburg, was transported to Morristown Medical Center and died there shortly after. According to a story on NJ.com, Pirres had a learning disability and attended the Regional Center for College Students with Learning Disabilities before attending Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mt. Kemble Avenue in Morristown will be shut down between Skyline Drive and Colles Avenue for water main repairs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m Friday. Detours will be in effect, but police are anticipating delays, according to a Nixle alert said Friday morning. The road was shut down earlier in the week because of a major water main break.

Other officers will be honored for 'extraordinary service' during Tuesday's council meeting.
The Morristown Police Department will swear in several new officers during a council meeting Tuesday night. The Oath of Office will be given to new officers Robert Edwards, Darius Harrison, Diego Alvarado, David Gizzi, Emmanuel Maragonis, James Green and Michael Alberto. Also taking the Oath of Office to become sergeants will be Richard Lamperti and Tyrone Jackson. Several officers will be recognized Tuesday for showing extraordinary service over the past year. Chief Peter Demnitz will recognize Det. Brendan Briscoe, Ptl. Kevin Beal, Ptl. Jermaine Marbley and Ptl. James Green. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m.

The Morristown-Beard School donated two mobile computers to the Morris Township Police Department this week. The computers will allow the police to access security cameas that are on the school's campus at anytime and see what the cameras are viewing in realtime. "If something happens — it could be anything from a bomb threat to an intruder to a fire — that gives us a real edge in terms of responding quickly and assessing the situation," said Chief of Police John McGuinness. "I hope it also gives parents some peace of mind that Morristown-Beard is doing its utmost for campus security." Girls cut through yard to avoid allegedly stalking driver on Harrison Street.
Two fifth grade girls cut through a Harrison Street yard and ran to school Wednesday morning to avoid a driver police have labeled as "suspicious" and are seeking information on. The girls told police that they noticed the driver, a white man with a long beard that curls at the bottom, driving a small blue car as they were walking to the Alexander Hamilton School on Harrison Street around 8:45 a.m., according to Det. Capt. Steve Sarinelli. Sarinelli said as the girls slowed their walking, the car also slowed and when the girls began to run, the car sped up. Using the yard as a cut through, the girls were able to get to Mills Street and then safely make it to school, immediately reporting the incident when they arrived around 8:55 a.m. …
