Morris County residents hung out with Patch Tuesday night at Tiffany's Restaurant in Montville for presidential debate viewing party.
Here's at least one thing everyone from any political stripe could agree on: whomever they were voting for before Tuesday's night's presidential debate at Hofstra University was the same person they were voting for after the 90-plus minute town hall event was over. Almost a dozen Morris County residents hung out with Patch at Tiffany's Restaurant in Montville for the slugfest between President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the second of three scheduled debates before America votes on Nov. 6. Most in attendance came in favor of Obama, while two registered Republicans held their own. It was a point Montville resident Truscha Quatrone, who is running for freeholder in Morris County, said was important. "We should not…

Teachers cite individual classes and programs focusing on this year's contest, but say there is 'no overarching plan to do anything for the election.'
Where's all the teen talk about the election? Board of Education member Leonard Posey asked Morristown High School student representatives Zaji Zabalerio and Grace Campbell during Monday's meeting if there was a lot of chatter about the upcoming presidential election between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and was surprised by their answers. First, both students shook their heads. "There's a presence, but it's not as emphasized," Zaji, a senior, said at the meeting. Grace, a junior, said her concentration was on European studies, so not much had been spoken of about the American elections. "Just in the halls," she said. Board member Jeannette Thomas said students in African-American Studies have been debating the election, while MHS teacher…

To the Editor: Embarrassed Republican? The referenced author's silence this past weekend was particularly noteworthy following the "embarrassing" performance of BHO in the debate last week. Mitt proved to be his intellectual superior while BHO was lost without his Teleprompter. It was clear to me, every poll and most of the demoralized liberal media that Obama is outmatched. Bad for him and those who prefer to only be takers in our society. Good news for those who aspire to participate in a growing economy. —Edward Doyle Morristown

Do you agree with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision Thursday upholding most of President Obama's signature health care reform legislation? By a 5-4 vote, the justices upheld most of the act, although the opinion is a complicated one. The court upheld the requirement that every American purchase health insurance or else pay a penalty, as a tax decision and upheld it on those grounds, in an opinion written by Chief Justice Roberts. "Our precedent demonstrates that Congress has the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000 under the taxing power, and that Section 5000 need not be read to do more than impose a tax," Roberts wrote in one of the key sentences from the opinion. As Republicans continue to duke it out for the GOP presidential nomination, New Jersey voters are split on President Obama's job evaluation, according to the latest recent statewide poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University's PublicMind. According to the FDU poll, 46 percent of Garden State voters approve of the job Obama is doing as president while 45 percent disapprove—a reversal, albeit barely, of two previous polls in which the majority of voters didn't give his performance a thumbs-up. Also, more voters said they were optimistic about the country's direction. 28 percent said the country is taking the right path—a jump of six points—while 61 percent still believe the U.S. is on "the wrong track." Five helicopters signal president's arrival as crowd lines Passaic Avenue.
President Barack Obama, wearing a blue buttoned-down shirt, waved to a crowd along Passaic Avenue in Fairfield Sunday from the back of his black motorcade car as he sped toward Wayne and Paterson to tour flood-ravaged areas. Obama could be seen briefly in his motorcade after arriving at Essex County's airport in Fairfield in one of five military helicopters that landed between 12:25 and 12:45 p.m. Police presence was heavy all along Passaic Avenue, while sharpshooters could be seen on top of the buildings at the airport. A line of buses were parked in front of the landing area so the view of his disembarking was blocked from the crowds. Crowds of local residents lined parking lots and grassy lawns of businesses along Passaic Avenue to get…

President Obama would hold onto his job if challenged by Gov. Chris Christie, according to a new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind. That's not new information—a similar poll in March found the same. What's new is just how much the gap has grown, according to the poll. In March, the divide was 46-40 percent, in favor of Obama according to the poll. Now it's showing at 50-34 percent. Now, all of that may be a moot point—Christie's said over and over again that he's not running. But ... what if he did? How would you vote? For Obama or Christie? Tell us in the comments. Here's FDU's full release on its poll: Jersey Guy Trails the President: But Then, So Does Everyone Else Visits to or from Iowa notwithstanding, New Jersey’s …
