Giants Pay Tribute to Victims of Newtown Shooting

Families, friends of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School usher team onto field.

NORTH JERSEY — More than 200 students from Sandy Hook Elementary School were among 400 people from Newtown, Conn., who formed a tunnel for New York Giants players to run through as they took the field Sunday for their final home game of the 2012 season. A little more than two weeks after a 20-year-old gunman stormed into the Connecticut elementary school and killed 26 people, including 20 children, families, classmates and neighbors of the dead were bused to MetLife Stadium and given tickets to the contest by the Giants. The group of Newtown residents received high-fives and handshakes from the athletes as they entered the field. Notes For Newtown From Morris County

The Morris County Arts Workshop collecting notes of support and encouragement to send to the families who lost loved ones in Newtown.

The Morris County Arts Workshop (MCAW) in Chester is channeling their creativity and compassion into a project to pay tribute to those who are suffering in the aftermath of the shooting in Newtown, Conn. Jane Shatz, director of MCAW has organized a tealight tribute to the children of Newtown. MCAW is dedicated to making arts participation an integral part of everyday life. The goal of this project for the people of Newtown is for the community to come together to share their grief, as well as wishes for healing and peace. "This is something we can do. Gun Control Needs to be a Priority After CT Shooting

Is murder of 26 people, most of them children, enough to make Washington take notice?

Bullet-proof glass in every window. Armed guards monitoring X-ray machines at the sole entrance. Snipers on the rooftop keeping watch over the playground. Is this the future of elementary schools in New Jersey and the nation? It’s hard to imagine everything school officials would have to do to make children completely safe, after the horrific slaughter Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. There is one thing that this nation must do: Congress must pass and the president must sign laws putting much greater controls on guns, preferably to include an Australia-style firearms buy back.
